Sooners become first Division I softball team to win four straight titles

The University of Oklahoma Sooners have made history by becoming the first NCAA Division I softball team to win four straight national titles. The Sooners defeated the Texas Longhorns 8-4 in Game 2 of the Women's College World Series (WCWS) on June 10, 2024, to secure the championship.

Oklahoma's victory was a dominant performance, as they took an early lead and never looked back. The Sooners scored two runs in the first inning and added three more in the second to take a 5-0 advantage. Texas managed to score four runs in the third inning, but Oklahoma responded with three more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-4.

Jordy Bahl was outstanding in the circle for Oklahoma, pitching three innings of perfect relief after starter Hope Trautwein allowed four runs in the third inning. Bahl struck out six batters and didn't allow a hit in her outing.

The victory was a fitting end to a historic season for the Sooners. They finished the season with a record of 59-3, including a perfect 17-0 record in the Big 12 Conference. Oklahoma also extended their winning streak to 27 games, which is the longest active streak in Division I softball.

The Sooners' victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of their players and coaches. They have set a new standard for excellence in Division I softball, and they are sure to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.
